.  In this edition we have included the
    Wiring Diagrams

    Smoke In Tender Locomotives
    (See photo example below)
    and the hard-to-find
#314AW - Whistle In Tender Wiring Diagram.
We have also included several enhancements
    to some of the
    2-Position Reverse Units
that are used by several of the locomotives. We have also added some
    4-Piece Boiler Atlantics
complete Diagrams and Parts Listings that were not in the First Edition.
Any other previous book publications that have
    American Flyer
Locomotives Exploded Parts Diagrams, Parts Listings and Wiring Diagrams, don't even come close to equaling what this reference book has included. Every Steam Locomotive, Cataloged or Not, is included in this reference book.
    The staff at
    AmericanFlyerExpress.com
was very lucky to have the good fortune to acquire a "complete" copy of an American Flyer
"Service  Manual Parts Catalog and Price List"
from an estate sale.  This manual had all of the Diagrams and Parts List for every Cataloged Steam and Diesel Locomotive that was manufactured by the
    A.C. Gilbert Company
, New Haven, CT.  This Manual had been updated to October 1962.  We have found,
that date in 1962, was the last update that was sent out to the Service Repair Stations throughout the country.  If there were any other updates, they might have been limited to the Factory Staff.  It also contained Factory Memos that talked of many changes that seemed to be made, on a frequent basis.  Parts would become Obsolete, Redesigned or Eliminated altogether.  That was quite the surprise to us, but in manufacturing, that is very common.  What we have done is to to take the information that is included in the original manual and enhance the quality of the Diagrams and Parts Listings.  The artwork from the factory wasn't always that clear so we enlarged each Exploded View of the Locomotives and Tenders.  We have separated the locomotive to one page and the Tender to another page.  The facing page to the Locomotive is the Parts Listings with the Diagram
Number, Part Number and the Part Description.  We did the same for the Tender Diagrams.  We did some rearrangement of the graphic elements of the diagram and we improved the Wiring Schematics for the Locomotives and Tenders both.  The Schematics were made larger and different symbols were used than what was originally used by the factory.  We've also included Service Instructions for each set of Locomotive and Tender Diagrams.
Our goal was to make this Factory Service Manual information more easily understood by the collector, operator or tinkerer.  We have sought clarity, in some instances, with certain parts of the Diagrams or Parts Lists from other American Flyer enthusiasts to make this publication as accurate as possible.  But, with all that, it is impossible to know how each locomotive engine left the factory with any consistency from day to day.  But we feel the General Information, we are providing, is a good Benchmark for every S-Gauge model of locomotives the A.C. Gilbert Company produced from 1946 through 1966.
The specifications of this Reference Book are:  It is printed on 24# Copy Paper, Laminated Hard Covers front and back, GBC Comb Binding for easy layout of the book for reading of the pages.  There is a total of 570 pages.  The Reference Book is Indexed and all locomotives are listed numerically for easy reference.
This would definitely be a great and unique addition to any operator or collector of American Flyer Trains.
